Club Med Crested Butte (March '05)

If you are not into skiing this is NOT the place for you!!!! The Club Med Resort is approx. 45 minutes from Gunnison airport and situated in the most perfect location at Mt. Crested Butte; a truly walk-out/ski-in property. The “lodge” atmosphere is VERY casual and managed with precision. The rooms are enormous and perfect for families.

There are three types of rooms:

  • The double room with king bed or two twins.
  • The quad room with king bed and two twin beds
  • The family suite. A one-bedroom suite consisting of a trundle bed in the living room as well as a queen sleeper with a full bathroom. This is connected to a king bedded room with another full bathroom. Sleeps 6 comfortably.
The rooms are simply, yet completely equipped, with humidifiers, coffee makers, hair dryers, safes, etc!

The food was plentiful and very good, actually much better than what I experienced at Club Med Turks & Caicos. They also have a “reservations” restaurant in which we ate one evening and the service/food/selection/etc was fantastic. This restaurant is also quite casual. It is only opened certain evenings and seats approx. 60 people at one time.

There are two bar areas which each serve incredible après-ski hors d’oeuvres beginning at 5:00pm each evening!!

The evening entertainment shows were directed purely at the kids and, I must say, the shows in the Turks & Caicos were much better. Perhaps because they were adult oriented???

The ski school program is wonderful and even experts take lessons again and again. After all, it’s INCLUDED!!!!! There is no ski school program on Wednesdays at all.

There is a very, very small indoor pool, one hot-tub which seats approx. 8, and a sauna. There is a massage center where they contract out to local professionals who come into the resort for clients.

The actual town of Crested Butte is approx 2 miles down the mountain from Mt. Crested Butte village. There is one main street with the typical resort shops and restaurants. There is a free town shuttle bus that goes between the two areas up and down the mountain all day long.

The mountain is for all levels of skiers, however, it is not a very high mountain so one can make many, many runs in one day!
